Madanika statues at Belur Sri Chennakesava Temple / Karnataka/ part 3 of 5 : MALE MADANIKA WITH DRUM :
In this post , I post one Male Madanika sculpture for a change !! This depicts a male dancer ( or musician ) carrying a tabla like drum .. You can see the drum and his fingers inside the tightening ropes of the drum .. Even these tightening ropes are being shown in great details ..
Second blow up is the LHS of the dancer leg and foot .. Rings on the foot finger and the ornaments are done to perfection ..
Third blow up .. His hairdo , hair strands , mustache and beard shown like a real thing .. Also the necklace he is wearing is shown in 3D ☺️
Fourth blow up .. See the left side leg blown up .. Unimaginable .. The foot and the standing posture looks like real .. Even the rings are shown clearly .☺️
I am sure that Even a modern woodwork can NOT match this genius ancient Vishwakarma's p work ...
BELUR TEMPLE IS A REAL WONDER OF THE WORLD .. PLEASE VISIT AT LEAST ONCE IN A LIFE's TIME .. To me , this temple is the most magnificent monument anywhere in our world ..
Any comments on this highest levels of workmanship ?
REPRODUCED FROM PART 1 :
This ancient beautiful Chennakesava temple in Belur is a testament to the amazing artistry of the Hoysala dynasties .. So many articles / posts have been written by many readers including me in our forum also on the history and mesmerizing art levels ..
There are 42 Madanikas or Bracket figures on the corner out of which 38 are outside the temple and four are inside the temple. Each figure attracts on its own merits.
They represent beautiful damsels in various moods representing feminine charm and grace, this perhaps are one of the best creations of the Hoysala sculptors of the Belur temple. There are a total of 40 pillars on the outer walls, each with a bracket figure of dancing girls (38 in total on outer walls). These sculptures are finely proportioned and exceedingly ornamented. The madanikas or nymphs are said to have been modeled after the beautiful Queen Shantala, wife of King Vishnuvardhana...
I always get fascinated and wondered how the Vishwakarma managed to bring out the divine beauty and life like form in those sculptures .. Just look at the facial expressions and the smiles ☺️☺️.
I could manage to take high resolution snaps of around 25 madanikas during my many visits in the past ..I will upload 5 photos in each post so that readers have time to go thru each one in detail and appreciate the beauty of Madanika statues ..
